Unfortunately I don't have too much to represent Bud. He was one
of the most importatnt figures in the Be Bop era and died way
too young. His influence can be felt in much of the playing by
today's jazz artists.
I was one lucky kid. Bud's manager (Oscar Goodstein) was a very close friend. Oscar was also the manager of Birdland and despite the fact that I was under age, he allowed me to come into the club at any time, (for free), so long as I never approached the bar. Of course I used to go out on the street with the musicians during break time to chat.
